A sound caused James to look up. He searched the never-ending darkness, searching for the source of bare feet walking along the tiled floor. Before him, the darkness appeared to shimmer as something moved through it.
It was a day like any other for Dave, but when he walks home in the evening he notices some guys harassing a young man. Usually, he wouldn't have cared. These things were so common in this neighborhood. The kid probably even deserved it. But this time it was different, he knew these guys. This time... he wouldn't let them get away. That decision turned out to change his life forever....

Damn it. I had a huge long response typed out and accidentally clicked on something and...comment gone. *silent scream of frustration* So forgive me if this response seems rushed and ineloquent. Something is definitely off about James. He's hiding something, I'm sure of it. Either he's the killer or he knows far more about the murder than he's letting on. What raises my eyebrow this time around is his inconsistent behavior regarding Kirk: first he tells Jason he doesn't think Kirk is the guy, then he treats Kirk with utter suspicion and contempt at the station. Is the latter all an act on James' part? Did he really insist on taking over the interrogation by himself because Jason was being incompetent, or because he wanted time alone with Kirk (either to intimidate him into talking, or into keeping quiet). As you can probably tell, I think Kirk knows more than he's letting on--I suspect he and Ron were more than just friends at some point too--but I don't think he's the murderer. If he is, that was an Oscar caliber performance. I felt so bad for the guy. Jason could probably have gotten somewhere with the God Cop routine if not for James. But nobody is what they seem in this story, are they? Least of all Lars, although he is the most egregiously perplexing of the lot. I'm very curious to see his rumored genius police skills in action. And he did drop a hint at the very end to Jason about what makes him tick, although he would no doubt see right through the tactic if Jason simply tried to not act jealous. All Lars would do is find some other button to push, I'm sure. "What a terrible time to be plagued by a Dane." LMAO! My favorite line of the chapter. Tied with Jame's quip about sticking his dick into the soil. They both made me snort. I was putting off reading this chapter because there weren't any more after it, and I know I should do the same with the next one, but I just can't resist... Thank you SO MUCH for updating. I'll borrow a line from a certain Dane and say, in all honesty, this story is like crack to me. :D —Augustine, for Shameshxme's ...And Justice For All
